Approach
The Cartwright team angled the launch around a campaign for Southwell’s role in Byron’s literary achievements to be recognised with a Historic England blue plaque, helping to strengthen the news hook while also raising awareness of the newly published book.
We engaged with an extensive list of national, local, trade and consumer publications, as well as more than 100 Nottingham arts, culture, tourism and local government stakeholders to launch the book with a bang at the event.

Results
We achieved 24 clippings, with highlights including BBC, Nottingham Post and Country Life. We secured broadcast coverage in BBC Radio Nottingham, Notts TV and managed a series of media interviews on the day of the book’s launch before and after the event took place. Coverage was also shared 20 times across social channels resulting in 17.5k social views.
We secured 40 attendees at the launch event, and further meetings were organised with Nottinghamshire City Council, Marketing Nottingham, Southwell Town Council and Bendigo Heritage fund as a result of strong support for the campaign.
The launch acted as a successful foundation for Geoffrey to build the campaign to deepen ties between Lord Byron and Southwell through tourism, as well as driving a steady stream of sales for the book.
“I wish to say how much I have enjoyed working with you all [Addie, Hannah and Ioana] and thank you for the enthusiasm with which you have promoted me and my book about Byron.
“It was never going to be easy to get national coverage for a book with such a local interest. However, I have been pleasantly surprised that there has been a deal of interest outside of our region, (the BBC news online which was picked up nationally and internationally) with people calling me from elsewhere and as you know the Greeks broadcasting my book in Greece, the country Byron gave his life for.”
